Welcome to Malachi Dads

Thank you for your interest in serving. As a volunteer, your presence will have a great impact in the lives of these men.

Below are steps to visit one of our meetings and to enroll as a volunteer.

New volunteers may join at any time and are welcome to serve for shorter or limited seasons if that fits their availability. You’ll be paired with an experienced volunteer to help you get started.

Volunteers are free to take time off as needed. Our team approach ensures that coverage is always provided, so no one feels pressure or guilt when life requires a pause.

Once you have completed the steps outlined below, please let your Volunteer Leader know or email volunteer@faithprisonministry.org. Someone from our team will follow up with you.

If you have any questions at any time, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.

With gratitude,
Dave White

Next Steps to Get Started

Step 1: Learn About Our Ministry

Review our Malachi Dads website at faithprisonministry.org to better understand who we are and how we serve.

Step 2: Special Volunteer Request (Initial Four Visit Access)

On our website visit Resources → Prisons We Serve to see the facilities you can visit.

Complete the Special Volunteer Request form below and review the Special Volunteer Orientation.

Submit the completed form—or email the requested information—to your Volunteer Leader or to volunteer@faithprisonministry.org.

Once approved, you will be granted up to four prison visits, which you may use to attend our meetings.

Approval takes about three weeks for this special volunteer pass.

Step 3 : Apply for Regular Volunteer Status

If you plan to serve as a regular volunteer, please begin the full Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) approval process as soon as possible. This process includes two required steps:
1. TDCJ Background Check
2. TDCJ Online Training Module

TDCJ approval typically takes two to three months. While your approval is pending, you may attend up to four meetings using a Special Volunteer Pass (see Step 2).

TDCJ will notify you by email once your application is approved. After receiving approval, please notify your Volunteer Leader or email volunteer@faithprisonministry.org.

Eligibility Note:
Formerly incarcerated individuals may serve as volunteers if they are 18 years of age or older, have no pending charges, and have been released from an adult prison for at least 12 months.

Important Note:
The TDCJ online training is separate from our Malachi Dads volunteer training found in Step 4 below. All regular volunteers are required to complete both.

Step 4: Complete Malachi Dads Training

Use the link below to visit our Training Page and review our training materials.

Our training is separate from and does not replace the required TDCJ online training. All volunteers must complete both.

If you have questions, please consult with your Volunteer Leader.

Use the link below to access the Training Page.

Step 5: Notification

Once you have completed Steps 1–4, notify your Volunteer Leader or email volunteer@faithprisonministry.org

Congratulations—you are ready to begin making a difference.

Thank you for answering the call to serve. Your time, presence, and commitment help create an environment where real change can take place.

We are grateful to serve alongside you.
