Volunteer Training – Malachi Dads
We offer volunteer training each January prior to the start of the program. A mid-year training session may also be offered as needed.
New volunteers may join at any time. Those who join after the program begins should review the training documents below. New volunteers will be paired with an experienced volunteer to help them get started.
After reviewing the materials, please return to the New Volunteer Onboarding page (link at the bottom of this page).
Important Note:
Our training is separate from the required TDCJ online training. All volunteers must complete both. The TDCJ online training link is available on the New Volunteer Onboarding page.
Below are best practices to help facilitate small groups effectively.
These guidelines are designed to help volunteers minister effectively to men in a prison setting.
Our ministry operates in full compliance with TDCJ guidelines. The training document below supports these requirements.
Each meeting begins with the group standing together to recite the Malachi Dad Pledge.
Below is a 10-question Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) questionnaire. Most men we serve score between four and ten.
The ACEs framework helps volunteers better understand the backgrounds and life experiences of the men we serve.
At various points during the program, there may be an opportunity to lead a man to Christ. The Romans Road outlined below provides a simple, biblical guide for doing so.
This handout is included in the student folders.
Once you have reviewed these documents, please return to the New Volunteer Onboarding page.
